CommVault: Exchange Mailbox archiver creates broken recall URLs

You are using Simpana 10 Exchange Mailbox archiving (not the previous Exchange Mailbox Archiver) in CommVault and you may have seen that your OnePass-Stubs have broken recall links in Quick Look. This is only visible in Outlook Web Access or on mobile. If you click the Quick Look link inside an e-mail you are redirected to https://webconsole/webconsole/RestServlet/Recall. Let me note that this is excactly the link that your users will see. Your global Recall Service URL configued for the archiver host is ignored.

Symptom:

  • Recall Service is configured with hostname that contains "webconsole" in the hostname e.g. https://webconsole.example.com
  • All Quick Look links in e-mails contain URLs to https://webconsole/webconsole/RestServlet/Recall and your custom hostname is ignored.
  • Recalls fail as the hostname cannot resolved to a host.

Solution:

  • A hotfix WinX64_10.0.0B116_120(recallurlfix).exe is available that fixes the bug. It may require SP12 with Hotfix #37.
  • The repair of already broken stubs suxxx a lot. You currently need to restore all archived e-mails to all Exchange mailboxes and need to archive them again to fix the broken links. Commvault still has no tool to fix broken URLs. If you may changed your recall URL or like to upgrade previous stubs to onepass you also need to restore terrabytes of mails to your exchange as they to not provide a tool that just walks through all your mailboxes and upgrades all existing stubs. This design flaw will also disallow your users to open older non-onepass archived emails to open on mobile and also restore stubs they already deleted. If they may moved stubs in their mailboxes these are now duplicated, too.

History:

  • 2015/12/18: Installed and tested the hotfix.
  • 2015/12/7: Opened case with CommVault
